ALL ABOUT ME

My connection to Chickamauga goes back decades, beginning as a seasonal ranger at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park from 1989 to 1991. I later earned a degree in History from Kennesaw State University and have spent years studying the soldiers and stories of the Civil War. With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement and museum management, I bring a practical, ground-level approach to interpreting the battlefield. Through my work with Explore the Civil War, I focus on sharing the voices and experiences of the men who fought here. My goal is simple: to help you see beyond the monuments and understand what really happened on this hallowed ground.

"It seemed a pity to kill men so."
The fighting at Viniard Field
Last approximately 4 hours  -  starts at $160

This tour explores the brutal and confused fighting around Viniard Field on September 19, where Union and Confederate forces collided in a series of sharp, back-and-forth engagements. Largely conducted on foot, we’ll walk the ground where these attacks and counterattacks unfolded and break down how terrain, timing, and command decisions shaped the action. The focus is on clarity—helping you understand what happened here and why this area became one of the most fiercely contested parts of the battlefield.

"We will hold it, or die here."
Harker's Brigade at Chickamauga
Last approximately 4 hours  -  starts at $160

Focused on one of the hardest-fighting Federal brigades on September 20, this tour follows Harker’s men through the critical fighting near Dyer Field and Snodgrass Hill. This is primarily a walking experience, allowing us to study the terrain up close and understand how the brigade held its ground during some of the most intense moments of the battle. Personal accounts and small-unit actions take center stage, giving you a deeper look at the fight beyond the monuments.
